Human System Interaction

What is Human System Interaction?

Human System Interaction focuses on the understanding of how humans interact with multimedia, machines and other environments. Thus, our Department aims to develop various systems based on the knowledge of such interactions.

In this century, we have witnessed a rapid development of multimedia and robots, which are widely used in our daily life today. It is now expected that in the near future, new systems and models may be explored, which function like humans with emotions and feeling. To establish the interdisciplinary fields encompassing Information Technology, Robotics, Engineering Design, and Brain Science, our department will continuously work to develop a human-centered system and cultivate talented individuals who will contribute to making innovative designs.

Visual Audio System Course and Cyber Robotics Course

The department of Human System Interaction offers two major courses: Visual Audio System and Cyber Robotics.

In Visual Audio System, students will study about the science of media and content-related technologies. They will study natural science as well as operation and creation technologies, using CG images, music and audio, so that they will learn to perceive how we see and hear things.

In Cyber Robotics, students will study about robotics and real-world interfaces. This course offers two main themes; (1) applying robot technologies to welfare activities and the fields of entertainment, and (2) developing the system to realize a ubiquitous information society.

Curriculum

The curriculum provided at the Department of Human System Interaction emphasizes the practical aspects of our fields by offering various practical trainings, aiming at producing innovative engineers and designers of the 21st century.

During the first two years, students learn the basic subjects regarding computer hardware, software, and other related-topics of information technologies. Practicum courses in programming and mathematics are taught in small-sized classes.

In the third year, students are assigned to each laboratory. By attending small group seminars to receive tutoring from their professor, students will work to gain the skills of problem-solving and presentation which are strongly required in the fields of engineering.

As is well known, Kwansei Gakuin University puts much emphasis on English education. In order to cultivate internationally recognized IT-related engineers, the School of Science and Technology offers English courses uniquely designed for students in science majors. For example, the School offers English courses called "Sci-Tech English" and an intensive course, "Sci-Tech English Field Training."

Career path after graduation

There has been a wide range of career paths that graduates from our department can choose. They are not limited to the fields related to information system, software/hardware, and communication network, but expanded to various fields such as automobile industry, mass media, entertainment industry, and so forth.

Those who hope to work as researchers or engineers in the future, go on to graduate courses in the School for master’s and doctoral degrees. If student have accomplished outstanding achievements at the undergraduate level, they will be recommended to move on to a graduate course. The department also offers Teaching Assistant systems and a number of scholarships as financial support.

The Department of Human System Interaction aims to further develop and offer new interdisciplinary fields of science. We warmly welcome students who are interested in science and technology, particularly those who are fascinated by the essence of human characteristics and emotions and would like to challenge innovative designs by applying their knowledge.
